DNA Gender Determination By Blood Test Information

What is SneakPeek® Clinical?

SneakPeek Clinical is an early gender DNA detection test offered to women starting at 8 weeks into pregnancy. The genetic test is designed to work in conjunction with an ultrasound scan for expecting mothers. An on-site phlebotomist draws a blood sample in the comfort of GoldenView Ultrasound, and then returns the sample to SneakPeek Labs for processing. The laboratories offer the fastest turnaround times in the industry, with a choice of receiving your result the same day the sample reaches the SneakPeek Lab. (Generally 2 days provided there are no postal delays) The concierge style of service even includes an email directly to you to report your result. The test is packaged with follow on ultrasound session to view your baby and provide images that you can take home.

How does the DNA Gender Testing work?

SneakPeek utilizes the natural process of shared fetal DNA circulating inside the mother’s bloodstream. Our PCR technology has the ability to detect the presence or absence of male Y chromosome in the blood sample provided starting at 8 weeks into pregnancy. If it is dectected then the baby’s gender is male and if it is not detected then the baby’s gender is female.

Can I use this Gender DNA Gender Testing if I am not 8 weeks into pregnancy?

No, do not take the test until you are at least 8 weeks pregnant. Our test ready threshold is 8 weeks after the first day of your Last Menstrual Period (LMP) or 31 weeks before your Estimated Due Date (EDD).

Does this test my blood for gestational age?

No, we do not test blood for gestational age. The information you provide on your signed Consent Form acknowledges that you have provided an accurate Last Menstrual Period (LMP) or Estimated Due Date (EDD) that will be used to measure how many weeks into pregnancy you are.

What if I don’t know how far along I am?

You should confirm your pregnancy and estimated due date in order to be certain that you are measuring at least 8 weeks prior to booking an appointment.

GoldenView Ultrasound does offer Pregnancy Verification at 6+ weeks to confirm pregnancy and estimated due date. This service is $99 and can be scheduled prior to a blood test with appointments available 7 days a week.

What is the accuracy of SneakPeek® Early Gender Test?

SneakPeek Early Gender Test has a greater than 99% accuracy for predicting a baby’s gender based on controlled laboratory testing reported by Sneak Peek.

Where is the DNA Gender Blood Test performed?

The blood tests are conveniently performed at a scheduled time with a licensed phlebotomist at GoldenView Ultrasound in San Antonio, TX. This is a closed blood draw from the vein, providing higher accuracy then a finger prick blood test which has a chance of becoming contaminated.

When will I get my results?

The blood tests are shipped to the lab using FED EX Next Day air. For Standard processing you will get the results the day after the sample reaches the lab or you may opt to upgrade to Fast Track and get the results the same day the blood sample reaches the lab. (Provided that there are no shipping delays, Fast Track would provide next day results and Standard would provide 2 day results) Next Day means very late in the evening so there is time to process the sample.

Is there a chance my results will be inconclusive?

While it is uncommon, there are some cases that come back inconclusive and the reasons are not always disclosed. A possible cause could be Insufficient fetal DNA. During pregnancy, maternal plasma contain fragments of DNA form the mother and from the placental (referred to as fetal DNA) In a small percentage of pregnant women, there is insufficient fetal DNA in the mothers blood ( compared to the amount of the maternal DNA. This is described as “fetal fraction” being too low for reliable results.

Low fetal fraction can be due to a lack of fetal DNA or a relative excess of maternal DNA. The level of maternal DNA can vary over time. Low fetal fraction is more likely in women with increased bodyweight. It may also be more likely in the presence of infection and inflammation, or after exercise.

If you get an inconclusive test result you will be able to test again at no charge the following week. It may be worth repeating because most will get the result on re-testing. If you get a 2nd inconclusive a refund of the cost of the DNA blood test will be refunded($129). If you pay for the version of the test with the Gender Ultrasound included, you can come back after 14 weeks and GoldenView Ultrasound can check for gender via ultrasound. If you paid the Ala Carte package for blood test only you may come back and pay for a Gender Ultrasound after 14 weeks. See San Antonio pricing page for details.

Can I take the test if I am expecting multiples?

The blood test cannot tell you the gender specifically of multiple fetus. If a male chromosome is detected then it would indicate that you are having at least one male. If no male chromosome is detected it would indicate that you are having 2 females. There is no way to determine, with the blood test alone if it is 2 males or a male and female. For multiples, we suggest that you determine gender by Ultrasound which is offered at GoldenView Ultrasound starting at just 14 weeks. See San Antonio pricing page for details.
